what direction do you turn vr 14 on a general lee to get maximum modulation

  1. Hullo, Kickoff off I promise I'thousand posting this question in the right area. OK I traded for a General Lee radio. when I got information technology, it wasn't working. I replaced the driver the one all the fashion to the right with the solder side of the board up. Well I know there was a diode placed inline. I still have the diode but forgot where it goes and what direction it goes in, Help Please?

I also replaced TR51 with a 2SB754. I got the radio working over again but it's non right. It has good receive and good wattage, but has no modulation at all on low ability merely it peaks around 20 watts on the hi ability setting. Tin someone aid me with this please?

I take looked it over like 100 times looking for something burnt or not continued but everything looks practiced.

    Thanks for any aid...

  3. unfortunately CB Tricks site is down again, so information technology's going to be tough to respond your questions without a schematic. The diode that yous are talking about, are you lot maxim that it was on the solder side of the board going to i leg of the ability transistor? I presume you are talking virtually the diode on the component side of the pcb, which goes to one pb of the audio transformer. If its on the component side, I'chiliad sure you probably know that there should exist a piffling silk screen image of the diode that shows which way it should go. If the diode was on the solder side, then it may accept been put at that place as a Modern of some sort? Is D91 still there on the component side?

Is this radio using IRF520'south? If you haven't already, check the voltage regulator, I think its B827. Make certain it's output is okay, and not over driving the IRF520 transistor. The regulators middle leg should be between
3 - 7 volts I recollect. If all three legs are around 13 - 14 volts, then the regulator is shorted. I hope this helps.

  4. I replaced the variable resistor on the low modulation side and it's back. Only nonetheless not sure where the diode goes. I as well constitute some other problem I put a new 2SB754 in only if the radio is keyed upwards for like a min or longer the side of the radio where the 2SB754 gets real hot. I tested the voltage coming from the front to the back, here is what it's showing
    Pin 1 Unkeyed=fourteen.xxx volts, Keyed=13.15 volts
    Pin 2 Unkeyed=4.97 volts, Keyed=four.70 volts
    Pivot 3 Unkeyed=13.90 volts, keyed=12.45 volts
Is this normal voltage if not where should I await.

Thanks over again for whatsoever help.

  5. These voltages are probably correct, the bad thing is that the radio is getting hot then in that location is a component somewhere that maybe shorted. It would sure be prissy to know what that diode's chore is and where its suppose to be in the circuit. Without a schematic, information technology'south like looking for a needle in a haystack. Is there 3 IRF520'due south in the radio? One should exist the TX power transistor, and the other two I believe are the drivers. You lot may endeavour de-soldering each transistors one at a time, and see if the 2SB754 still gets hot.
  6. I checked n D91 is in the board. Yep it has the 3 IRF520 in it. I'll try that, the diode was solder on the far right IRF520 if the radio is facing you, I recall it's a driver n like yous said some kinda mod but non sure. I've seen them on other radios I've had here but never really looked that hard at it.

  8. Yeah what the hell is going on with this?

it is like mp3car.com, nifty site, could accept been a paid subscription site but the owner took it down.

  9. Okay, thanks for the pictures. I'm deplorable, simply I said it backwards nearly the 520'south. looking on the component side, the far left 520 (the 1 that's kind of past itself) this transistor is the driver. The middle transistor and the ane to the right (closest to the middle of the radio) are the TX finals. I didn't recall to enquire if you had checked the bias on them. The gate voltage on the driver should be around 3.75 volts, and three.55 volts on the ii finals. Also, if you haven't already, information technology might be worth checking the ceramic insulators to brand sure they aren't cracked. I wish I could be more assist, but I'k not that familiar with this radio. I think the Connex 3300HP is the same lath. If you could only get your hands on ane, information technology might help y'all effigy this out.

  10. Yeah, it'due south very unfortunate to have such a valuable website not be available from time to time. I've noticed on other forums some of the guys said they would exist willing to donate to help keep CB Tricks going. But I guess the webmaster must not of been interested in the offer? What ever the reason, its a shame to loose it.
  11. I looked for the electronic mail for the owner, i thought I had it but ...

I would consider taking it over and mp3car.com ...
